Temperament and training
The best result you can get when training your Cairn terrier is if you train them when they are still puppies, because as they grow they tend to become stubborn if not trained. It is often said that the Cairn terrier are disobedient dogs, this is true only if you don’t train your dog correctly, it is strongly suggested that you get a guide to train your dog so you can make your relation with it a lot more enjoyable. They are also known as ‘the best little pal in the world‘. You should train your dog in a ‘closed’ space, like a backyard with a fence, if you only dispose of an open place you should do it with a leash, because they will get tempted to run away after anything small that moves like squirrels, cats, other dogs, etc.
Daily exercise is recommended, it can be a walk with its owner, remember to use a leash, the longer the walk the better for both, master and dog.
Cairn terriers are very good with children, so it is suitable for a family to have one, as they are very gentle too, one thing to have in mind is for your kids the way they treat the dog, because this breed will not tolerate mistreatment, often made by children without knowing what they are doing. Regular brushing is advised to keep your dog comfortable and happy
