Papillon. French name meaning butterfly, also called the Continental Toy Spaniel a Spaniel type breed
The papillon has large ears, that can be erected or dropped with round tips, a papillon with dropped ears is called a Phalène (meaning moth in French). It has a slightly rounded head, medium sized dark eyes. The papillon has a long tail. That it’s very nice to see if you care for your dogs appearance, the tail is carried over the body and covered in fine hairs which make it really smooth.
The Papillon presents a long straight and fine single coat. Common coat colors are white with patches of any color
The Papillon is a very capable and intelligent dog, meaning it can be easily learn tricks and be obedient, so it’s easy to train. The dogs personality is affected by how you raise it. Socializing with other people at young ages is recommended, if so, the dog becomes very sociable with other people and great with children also other pets can get along. If isolated at puppy stage, the dog can develop an aggressive behavior towards other dogs. But these are the exception.
Papillons are very loving, playful and affectionate dogs, known as great companion dog. They can behave very active and full of energy when it’s time to play, so it can keep up with very active people but also enjoys the peace and calm of sleeping in arms of its owner. However, they need a good dose of daily exercise because of their high energy levels.
Due to their single coat, papillons are more sensitive to cold than to heat, they can withstand heat very well but should not be left outside in cold days.
The name of butterfly/moth was selected for this dog because of their ears, large and well fringed that gives them a butterfly’s wing like appearance
