Appearance and size.
The Corgi is in size very similar to larger breeds, the thing is that has shorter legs so that makes it a small dog breed. It has a athletic, robust and tenacious appearance which helps it herd livestock such as sheep and cattle. Being short is an advantage when dealing with livestock animals, because if any livestock animal tries to kick the dog, the dog can avoid the hit for being a short dog, because a kick goes higher than the dog’s head, this way avoiding serious damage. It has a long body and a long, bobbed tail. Erect ears are very noticeable on this breed, cause it’s ears are really big. The corgi’s head is similar to a fox‘s head in shape.
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are not very tall, they are 10 to 12 inches (25 to 30 cm). A funny fact is that they are almost twice as long as tall, measured from shoulders to the tail. Pembrokes in athletic or normal condition weigh around 26 to 30 pounds (12 to 14 kg), females weigh a little less, 2 to 3 puounds less than males. Their growing process ends at 2 yeas when they reach full maturity, but they stop growing in height by the time they reach the 9th month. One thing to have in mind is that Pembrokes, tend to eat a lot if you let them, they have a big appetite, so they can get really fat if allowed to overeat. So have in mind the amount of exercise the dog does and how much food you give to it daily, overfed dogs are not healthy. Pembroke Welsh Corgis (Corgwn in Welsh) can benefit from portion control and exercise.
