The Pembroke Welsh Corgi
A little history to know better the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, such a smart small dog breed.
There are two types of Welsh Corgi, The Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is known as a herding dog breed. The name of the breed comes from it’s origins (Pembrokeshire, Wales).
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a very intelligent dog, it was ranked at position 11 in Stanley Coren’s “The Intelligence of Dogs“, this is why it’s considered an excellent and useful working dog. At the year of 2011 The Pembroke Welsh Corgi was selected as the 25th most popular dog
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi was originated before the Cardigan Welsh Corgi and they are officially considered a distinct breed from the Cardigan. The corgi is one of the smallest dog breeds when we think of other herding dog breeds . Pembroke Welsh Corgis are known at the present time for being the preferred breed of Queen Elizabeth II, who owns sixteen Pembroke Welsh Corgi. These dogs have been Linked to the British royalty for more than seventy years.
A herding dog, is a type of Pastoral dog that has been trained in herding. Their skill to be trained and act on the sound of a whistle or word of command is used worldwide.
All herding behavior is modified predatory behavior, mankind has been able to change the dog’s natural behavior to treat the animals they herd as prey while simultaneously maintaining the dog’s hunting skills, this way creating a really effective herding dog to do the work without losing control.
