The Pomeranian is a breed of the Spitz type, this means, that they have some characteristics like Tail curled over the back, pointed ears and muzzles, and long thick fur.
These are very small dogs, and for that they are known as ‘toy dogs’, this breed descends from larger Spitz dogs, more specifically German Spitz. Like Corgi’s this breed became popular because of royal owners for a long time, the smaller Pomeranian became popular when Queen Victoria owned one. Leaving the size aside these are. However, they have some recurring issues like Luxating patella or Tracheal collapse. There’s also a genetic hereditary disease that rarely appears on this dogs, it’s called black skin desease, and causes the dog’s skin to turn black and lose its hair.

These are really light weight dogs, you could carry them easily in your arms, they weigh 2 to 3.5 kilograms (4.2 to 7.7 lb) you could think of these dogs as very compact dogs. In the past there wasn’t much variety in colors, they were white or ocassionally black, but at the present it can come in various colours like brown, black, white, red, cream, blue, orange, sable, brown and tan, black and tan, spotted, brindle or a combination of the before mentioned colors. Typically they are black, white or orange in some cases.
Pomeranians present a thick double coat, It is recommended that you groom your Pomeranian daily because of the thick double coat, shedding twice a year is also recommended. The outer coat is long and straight, and the undercoat is soft and short.
